Experts at University of Calgary discovered that an element of consumer products is extremely hazardous for people.
The BPA is a chemical which is used in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. These plastics are usually utilized as containers to store food and beverages. It can be easily found all around the globe.
Earlier, a study uncovered that BPA is connected to some lethal diseases such as diabetes, asthma and obesity. Hence, several public health authorities compelled manufacturers to swap BPA with BPS (bisophenol S. People believed that BPS is appropriate for health of human beings.
However, a latest study uncovered that both the chemicals (BPA and BPS) can give birth to numerous social, behavioral and psychiatric issues.
The researchers carried out an experiment on zebrafish to determine the impact of BPS. Almost 90 percent of the genes of zebra fish and humans are similar. Therefore, scientists usually use it to examine the embryonic brain development. They give expose the fish to the very little amount of BPS. Surprisingly, even the slightest quantity of BPS left a large impact on the brain.
The exposure to BPS changed the increased the development process of neurons of the fish. Such kind of abnormal growth of neurons in brain can lead to hyperactivity in zebra fish.
The paper is explained in detail in Journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada provided funds for the research.
