Facebook is holding nothing back. Set to conquer every last bit of the social media world, the Social Network is looking to take out one of its main contenders, Twitter. Breaking news has always been easier on the 140-character platform with the feature that alerts the user every time their favorite news publications post a new status.
Well, it turns out that Facebook is expanding in this field as well, because rumor has it the company’s software engineers are working on releasing a new app, designed specifically for delivering breaking news reports.
Nothing but the best is expected from Facebook, and if the alleged app will eventually be released, it will most assuredly include only the best news custodians out there. The most important feature of the breaking news app will be to deliver notifications whenever the user’s favorite publications will post.
Even though Facebook hasn’t gone official with this app yet, it will most likely make it possible for users to share the news they are interested in with their friends on Facebook – a link to the mother-site and app would be a smart tool to convince Facebook users to download the breaking news app.
If Messenger is any indication for the awesomeness Facebook is capable of, the upcoming app has all the ingredients to make news-reading the new hype. If they keep improving the app with nifty updates and new features, users will be drawn to it like moths to the light.
But more than that, a brand new app will also reassert Facebook’s authority as leading player in the social network business, adding a new service to the large portfolio it is already offering.
Facebook is well aware that the need to stay relevant should be the drive for all of its major moves, and outshining Twitter in this department might keep them at the top of the social media food chain. But don’t hold your breath – the standalone app is reportedly still in an alpha testing phase, which means that your smartphone will wait a while longer before boasting it.
Furthermore, the new app is expected to borrow the main algorithm used to personalize the posts users see on their Timeline, by delivering not only the freshest news, but also those deemed relevant by the user’s personal interests.
But before an official statement is released, fans of the social network can only speculate. If the breaking news app becomes reality, it has a huge potential of getting people interested in the latest news.
