Shotgun weddings are sadly one of the most overlooked traditions in our country. Sure, they may not be fun for the family, but they’re fun for everyone else. And how better to celebrate this time-honored tradition than to offer a free shotgun with your wedding ring purchase in Florida?
It kind of started as a joke
Jessie and Nick Czerok own the Downtown Goldsmith Jewelry & Engraving and 2nd Amendment Firearms together, and they couldn’t be happier.
Knowing the shotgun wedding tradition, Jessie Czerok says that it’s not quite the same premise, since it isn’t the father of the bride who is getting the shotgun, but that they took the premise and turned it around a bit.
And they did have some older gentlemen coming in and taking advantage of the deal, so who is to say that they didn’t actually contribute to any shotgun wedding?
Even though the jewelry store at 139 N. Woodland Blvd. has been there for 14 years, the gun side of the shop only opened in 2012.
Ever since then, the couple has been offering the deal around Christmas and Valentine’s Day, and they are quite successful.
The deal includes rings priced from $450 to $4,000, while the shotguns are worth around $270. And they of course, only come after a background check.
People are loving it
This is the third year in a row when the couple is offering the deal, and business has never been better. They managed to sell 8 pieces of jewelry in only two days, and Christmas isn’t even here yet.
Wayne Carter, executive director of the MainStreet DeLand Association, somewhat grudgingly admits that the idea is actually funny, but has no qualms about admitting that it’s definitely an attention getter.
The couple says that they are drawing in a lot of customers, as guys are usually happy to be able to get their girlfriends into a gun store, while girls are excited to get their boyfriends into a jewelry store.
Other shop owners along the street are hesitant about stating their opinions related to the couple’s offer, but they do admit that it brings people to the street, and that it definitely warrants attention.
If you’re interested in seeing the shop, or perhaps even getting in on the free shotgun offer, you’d better hurry, as the supply of free shotguns is limited.
The only thing that makes the situation even better is that Jessie handles the guns, while Nick is the store’s jeweler.
