sWhat Mark Zuckerberg has done starting with his college years at the Harvard University has with no doubts changed the world or the way in which we see it at least. Facebook, the world`s biggest social platform and much more than that will remain in the history of our civilization for a long time. No matter how reasonable it is to have such a thing like Facebook is, holding the profiles of over 2 billion most of the time unwise members, its impact upon the world, mostly from a social point of view, but not only, is fantastic. However, Internet.org is still regarded as controversial and is still the target of many attacks.
Mark Zuckerberg`s speeches about the way in which he and his colleagues at Facebook intend to connect the world in order to make it a better place are nice to hear and you may say in your mind when you hear them: `well, if this guy really believed in what he is talking about, it would be great`. Maybe he really does, who knows. It is, on the other hand, a well known fact that connecting the world really brings some practical advantages, like the recent Facebook `I`m safe` tool in connection to the tragic events which occurred in Nepal. When every high school girl signaled herself as safe on Facebook while taking a selfie of her in the most comfortable of school bathrooms, it was very painful.
However, to sum it up, connecting the world may seem an utopia if you take into consideration the speeches delivered by Mark Zuckerberg, but it is clear that it brings some improvements to our world.
Internet.org is an initiative supported by Zuck and its main purpose is to offer free access to the internet all across the globe. It may sound very nice, but Internet.org faces heavy rounds of criticism. In term of net neutrality, the project has known some changes, still, critics are continue to express their disagreement with the initiative.
On Monday, Mark Zuckerberg has been the one to whom an open letter signed by 65 advocacy groups was addressed to. The open letter claimed that the Internet.org initiative represented a threat to the freedom of expression.
Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has also launched an attack against the initiative by the CEO of Facebook. They claim that Internet.org is not neutral, does not guarantee safety and actually it is not internet at all.
The main problem with Internet.org is that people say that the online services to which the users will have access will be selected by the social platform Facebook.
