Nowadays, weight loss is one of the hottest subjects debated all over the internet. Therefore, all kinds of diets achieve sudden popularity, only to submerge into obscurity once again after a while. A new regime took over Reddit, the diet known as CICO (calories in calories out). In fact, this miraculous diet might actually be a classic method to lose weight.
What is the CICO diet?
Many Redditors swear by this new CICO diet, telling everyone is one of the surest methods to shed that annoying extra weight. However, not all are convinced of it. The main mechanism behind this diet is to opt for a deficit of calories every day. In other words, you can eat whatever you want, as long as you take care of the calories.
This might sound great, but counting your calories might not be the best method if you really want to lose weight. Lyndi Cohen, an Australian nutritionist, explained why opting for such a method didn’t always return visible results.
The CICO diet isn’t quite a healthy miracle
When people start calculating the calories they need to consume during the day, they often make sure they reach the necessary number. However, they no longer pay attention to what nutrients they eat. This means they often end up consuming more nutrients which favorize weight gain, while still staying within the calorie limits.
Also, choosing to eat less instead of eating smart is not a good idea at all. If the body doesn’t get the necessary nutrients, it starts starving. When this happens, it starts consuming muscle, since it has no other source of energy. Therefore, the CICO diet doesn’t promote a healthy lifestyle, and it may disrupt the balance of the body.
If you really want to lose weight, the secret doesn’t lie in calorie counting. By choosing healthier foods, and eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, we should reach a better physical state in no time.
