A startling Harvard research shows that love hormone significantly reduce appetite in men.
Oxytocin, also known as “love hormone”, is secreted by Posterior Pituitary gland. It is produced during kissing, cuddling and sex in men.
In the small study, researchers randomly selected 25 men among which 12 were overweight and 13 with normal weight. Afterwards, the members were divided into two different groups. Researchers gave oxytocin nasal spray to the first group and placebo to the other one.
Then, participants were asked about their preferred breakfast meal. Researchers offered double amount of their requested food.
After breakfast, participants went through a series of tests to check how much calorie each person consumed. The outcome of the study revealed that oxytocin considerably reduced number of calorie consumption in men.
Elizabeth Lawson, assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, discussed the research in detail. She notifies that findings are certainly very astonishing for everyone. However, additional study is need for the verification of the study.
As per the researchers, oxytocin spray compels body to use body fat in order to energize them. However, it also influenced calorie intake up to 122.
Unfortunately, experts observed a few side effects of oxytocin spray such as dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The study was presented at the annual meeting of Endocrine Society. The conference was held in San Diego on Sunday.
