The month of November has just started, and it promises to bring a hoard of men who have decided to give up shaving this month. This is part of a recent trend known as No Shave November, where men worldwide put away the razor and leave their fabulous beards thrive. However, this is not only a fashion statement, as the practice has a lot more meaning than many people are aware of.
What is No Shave November, after all?
The No Shave November trend started as a fun attempt which quickly became a tradition among men. However, a few years ago, a grieving family decided to take advantage of this popular practice and use facial hair to raise some money for cancer research.
In November 2007, Matthew Hill, the father of eight children, lost the battle with colon cancer. Grief-stricken, his children decided it was time to do something against this terrible disease. Therefore, they decided to turn No Shave November into a humanitarian cause, and use it to raise some money for cancer research.
Therefore, the family started a collaboration with a series of organizations which fight against the disease, and are actively looking for a cure. These include the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Prevent Cancer Foundation, and Fight Colorectal Cancer.
Everybody is invited to take part to the No Shave November campaign
Now you can help too, by being a part of No Shave November, and even ladies are invited to participate. The rules are simple. People should leave their facial and body hair grow, and avoid shaving or waxing during the entire month of November. Then, the money they would have spent on shaving products can go the cancer research centers.
This way, people can have fun while helping a noble cause. Many of them were happy to find out No Shave November is not another crazy trend young people decided to adopt, but rather a fun and fashionable way to help researchers find a cure for one of the deadliest diseases in the world.
