Microsoft has recently started to lure iOS users with apps especially made for them and now Microsoft new app for iOS brings work related news.
Although, in most cases Microsoft doesn’t really bring something completely new, that Apple doesn’t offer already, they still manage to attract some iOS users with some interesting applications meant for them. The newest one is called News Pro and it is a personalized app that offers news related to the user’s current interests, or job or anything they may like.
What News Pro is about
Of course, a news app is far from new to iOS users who already have Apple News. However, News Pro from Microsoft is powered by Bing News and it personalizes using social networks. You can sign into the app with your Facebook or LinkedIn account and in this way your home feed will get updated with news that match the interests you have listed in your social media accounts.
Of course, if you don’t necessarily want to base your app on the Facebook or LinkedIn accounts, you also have a separate tab that allows you to customize the topics you would like to follow. The tab is split into “Browse” and “Pilot”, both features allowing you to do the same thing.
Another thing that differentiates the Microsoft app from the Apple one is that you can both like and comment on articles from the app, while with Apple News you can only like it by clicking the heart button.
Too many similarities
There is also another interesting feature called “Speedy Mode”. This gives you a quick-to-load version of the article you’re looking to read. This is actually quite similar to the SmartNews app you can find for iOS.
The News Pro is the newest app from Microsoft Garage, where many projects are being developed. These projects are not backed up as seriously as other Microsoft projects, but are rather “let’s give it a try and see how it goes” projects. Therefore, many of them look like copycats of already existing apps developed by Apple or apps which don’t have many chances of becoming popular in the near future.
The News Pro is one of these apps, as it strongly resembles the already existing Apple News and doesn’t really bring anything truly new and interesting to the table. Besides, most iOS users will prefer Apple-developed apps than others.
