New York Police Officers Returning from Wedding Reception
On Sunday, Shandaken authorities responded to a car crash southwest of Albany. Upon arrival, the first responders extricated three victims, two males, and a female, from a rented 2018 Maserati. The male victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Later, an ambulance took the female to the hospital. She was diagnosed with non-life-threatening head trauma.
The investigators managed to identify the male victims – Michael Colangelo, 31, and John M. Martinez, 39. Both were police officers at Brooklyn’s 84th Precinct.
According to the police report, Colangelo, who was a K-9 officer and also a groom, was returning from his wedding reception hosted at the Full Moon Resort.
Before the reception, Colangelo rented a 2018 Maserati, which he intended to use to pick up his wife, Katherine.
While on the road, Colangelo lost control of the vehicle. The car went off the road and collided with a tree.
On Monday, State Police Major Pierce Gallagher gave a statement about the deceased New York police officers.
According to Gallagher, the investigators so far ruled the possibility of foul play. Moreover, based on the wreckage investigation, the authorities have reason to believe that Colangelo was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle.
The bodies were taken to the county’s medical examiner for autopsy and tox screens. Gallagher declared that the investigation is ongoing. As a result, additional details will be made public as soon as they become available.
Katherine, the spouse of the deceased, was planning on spending the honeymoon in Costa Rica.
