Taking into consideration the most recent struggles of the senior US Intel agencies like the National Security Agency in order to extend the authorization for the data collection program past 31 May and the disagreement expressed by the US Senate, the matter of the actions run by agencies such as the NSA have come back to the attention of general public in the recent period of time. On this tense background, the American citizens become more and more disquiet about the fate of the controversial data collecting regulations such as the PATRIOT Act, leading to a high level of general discontent with the situation that might probably end on May 31, or, if not, might be reformed to a newer, more acceptable version and more in agreement with the Constitution of the United States, according to most of the US citizens. This time, in the field of tech, voices claim that NSA planned Google Play hack to take action on the smartphones run by the Android operating system.
It may not surprise you to hear that on Wednesday, a report in connection to the project of global intelligence agencies, including the American National Security Agency, has unveiled a project of hacking and hijacking smartphones run by Google`s operating system, Android. The NSA project for such a purpose was published by The Intercept and by CBC News. The project elaborated by the NSA was named “Irritant Horn”. Its main target was to access information related to a user`s activity on app stores. Such info was then captured by intelligent spyware and sent back to the National Security Agency. The entire process would be so smooth and intelligent that you would not even raise an eyebrow while the NSA gets info on whether if you play the Candy Crush Saga or not or whether if you use Opera or Chrome for a web browser.
According to the analysts in the field, such a project by NSA has been developed in connection to the events of the Arab Spring, which occurred in 2010. Then, several governments have been overthrown and one of the most important factors in order to do so was communicating through internet and mobile devices. The US government and the NSA know such things better than all of us and the “Irritant Horn” surely looked like viable solution to prevent such uprising.
