In an attempt to deliver professional services to low-budget users, RED confirms its $5950 4K Raven Camera can be used as a drone. The new prototype represents RED’s most recent professional camera that is incredibly lightweight and yet, technologically advanced.
Professional cameras rarely get into the hands of non-professionals and this, not because enthusiasts don’t know how to use them, but because prices are generally too high for the lay public. RED is the first professional camera producer, which has agreed to deal with this problem once and for all.
The company informed on Friday that the first 4K professional camera will be available for sale starting February 2016. The 3.5-pound heavy model has been set at $5950, a small price compared to the cost ranges of other similar products. Yet, customers must be aware that this fee is valid only for the ‘body’ of the camera. Customers will have to pay additional charges for which ever accessories they plan on purchasing.
The company takes great pride in its new RAVEN model because it is incredibly compact and light compared to exiting models. The official announcement further wrote that the 4K RAVEN model may be used by hand or it may be attached to a drone for bird’s eye view angles.
An 8.8-megapixel RED Dragon sensor has been packed into the camera, according to the official product description. The component gives users the possibility to shoot in 2K and 4K formats. The RAVEN model can record up to 240fps and 120fps, the producer has informed.
The design of the camera is in keeping with the uncomplicated concept of the prototype. RED has chosen a square-like shape for the RAVEN model because it can be easily attached to a drone. The EF lenses have been provided by Canon.
RED has used the press release to further position its camera on the U.S. market. The developer recommends the new camera to all low-budget filming crews, which cannot afford to pay more than $10,000 for a professional filming device. This is the maximum price range that users would have to pay if they chose to add all RAVEN accessories to RED’s new camera.
