Soylent is getting ready to release a new, drinkable meal. It’s an almost magical version of the company’s just-add-water meal that has the exact same nutritional value as the old product, with the added benefit of also containing algae.
It’s set to hit markets later this year, in October, and Mr. Rhinehart, employee who designed the product back in 2013, gave a statement saying that “It’s really designed in a much different fashion”.
Soylent 2.0 is meant to allow people with busy schedules to consume affordable food with a high nutritional value. It’s not just a periodic supplement like Boost or Ensure, but actually acts as a complete meal substitute, with the company’s ads referring to it as a “meal replacement”.
Another important differenced is that those periodic supplement are fairly unhealthy products that have been “loaded with sugar” and lack the “the macronutrient balance or the glycemic index” that Rhinehart himself would feel comfortable sustaining himself on.
Even the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified Soylent 2.0 as an honest to goodness food product, as opposed to a nutritional supplement or a dietary shake.
On top of everything, the company informs that the new drinkable meal can last for at least a year before going bad, and does not even require a fridge.
Time will tell if consumers will at any point chose to strictly consume Soylent meals. While the products themselves are for all intents and purposes complete meals, people still prefer to chew some of their food and only replace a modest number of their meals with Soylent goods.
Ever since the animated carton show “The Jetsons” first aired, many scientists and nutritionists have speculated that traditional dinners will one day be served as pills.
But many other cartoons have portrayed this type of meal as being a sad one, and real life people seem to agree as many innovative meal replacements have been launched over the years, but only a few of them have been embraced on a mainstream level.
