Recent reports revealed that, North Texas is no longer resistant to enterovirus-D68. Up till now, dozens of children have been admitted in the hospitals having symptoms of EV-D68.

Director of pediatric services at Medical City Children’s Hospital, Jim Allard, told that as early as late August, we got the virus on our radar, when dozens of children were admitted to the hospital due to severe respiratory sickness.

He further told that, “The situation alarmed us and we started working on some of the cases. Moreover, CDC also initiated a deep analysis throughout the country to extinguish basic criteria for the patients who likely are at risk.”

Up till now, we have confirmed 11 cases overall, 10 in Dallas and 1 in Denton country. Four of them were treated at Medical City Children’s.

Certainly, 6 more children, who had recently admitted in the hospital, were expected to have the same virus attack, but CDC tests denied the presence of virus in them. 5 of those patients aged below 2-years, are discharged from the hospital, officials reported.

Enterovirus D-68 symptoms includes common cold, fever, gooey nose, sneeze, cough, and body aches.

Allard further told that, it’s quite crucial for the patients to know, when to ask for medical attention. As a parent, you should take child to the hospital, when he is wheezing or feeling difficulty in breathing.

“It took 3 to 4 times longer for us to smash the wheezing,” he told.

Parents needs to pay attention on prevention such as regular hand wash, as there is no medication discovered yet, doctors stated. We just have the option to do oxygen therapy until the virus runs its course.
