35 Restaurants in China Were Closed Due to Illegal Drug Seasonings

January 22, 2016 By Denise Ehrlich

"raw opium bulbs"

The restaurants were using ground poppy seeds that contained a high amount of opiate substances.

People discovered the origin of those cravings for certain hot pot dishes after 35 restaurants in China were closed due to illegal drug seasonings. The restaurants were using opium seeds to spice up the food and ensure the customers would come back for another dose, dish.

35 Restaurants in China Were Closed Due to Illegal Drug Seasonings

The Drug and Food Administration in China declared that 5 of the restaurants are currently facing criminal charges, and the other 30 are pending further investigations. The closed restaurants varied from a hot pot Beijing chain to a dumpling joint in Shanghai to a noodle shop in Chongqing province.

There is a Precedent of Using Crushed Poppy Seeds as an Effective Food Seasoning

The subject is not new, unfortunately, for the ears of the Drug and Food Administration in China, cooks being known to add crushed poppy seeds to the food. The actual effects that the extra secret ingredient had on the customers are now being looked into by the proper authorities so it is not clear if they indeed offered a buzz or a need to come back and have some more.

In 2014, a person that failed a drug test after eating out helped the police bust a noodle joint in Shaanxi. The same fate was suffered by seven restaurants from the province of Ningxia in 2012 and in 2004, an astonishing 215 restaurants were closed in the province of Guizhou for the same reason.

It’s a Special Kind of Poppy Seeds

The poppy seeds in question were not the same as those we see sprinkled on our morning bagels. There is a special poppy powder obtained from a special kind of poppy that is richer in opioid substances then the regular one. This is why the cooks managed to get away with the extra ingredient in front of so many colleagues and in front of the restaurant managers if we believe their statements.

This kind of poppy is not that hard to find if you know the right person who hangs around the entrances of dark alleys and have around $60 in your pocket, of course.

In order to make it, even more, difficult to test for the illegal substances, the cooks used to mix the seeds up with powders and chili oil, which made the testing possible only with special laboratory equipment.

The Chinese authorities are not facing such a problem for the first time. They have been forced to deal with a supplier that worked with world-famous MacDonald’s and KFC and that were selling them expired chicken, or seafood enriched with gelatin.

It seems that in China home food really is the best food.

Study, Poor Sleep Could Make Your Teen Turn To Alcohol Or Drugs

January 20, 2015 By Andreas Petersen

According to a recent study, poor sleep habits leads to risky conduct among adolescents. Scientists analyzed and compared the habits of the individuals who slept soundly with those who did not get enough sleep.

The key takeaway? Getting a good night’s sleep is not only good for your health, it prompts better judgment.

Writing in the Alcoholism journal: Clinical and Experimental Research, specialists investigated survey data from more than 6,500 teenagers over the United States. The countrywide study happened in three waves somewhere around 1994 and 2002. Sleep patterns, drug use and alcohol use were all reviewed.

Members who slept poorly were destined to have drug and alcohol issues, however researchers needed to create a firmer link beyond correlation.

The researchers found that those teenagers who reported inconvenience going to sleep at least once a week were more prone to keep in risky sexual conduct, binge drink or take unlawful medications.

As the sleeping despairs progressed, so did the risky conduct. A youngster that reported inconvenience going to sleep every day were 33% more inclined to participate in the above practices. The less hours they slept had a connection with if an adolescent would experience issues related to alcohol abuse or drug abuse.

Shouldn’t we think about youngsters that stacked extra sleep? Every extra hour managed some level of security in the chances of the teenager participating in conduct, for example, binge drinking. Now when a child needs to sleep on Saturday, they can simply point their guardians toward science.

Prof. Maria Wong, from Idaho State University, headed the group of analysts on the study. “More of the time we don’t think sleep is imperative. However, our results show sleep is a good sign of some serious later issues.

“A lot of parents don’t screen their youths’ sleep timetables and let them settle on their own choices about when to go to bed.

“However, parents need to begin conversing with their adolescents, not just about grades and extracurricular activities but about sleep as well. Also they must get help if necessary.”

What are some brisk fixes to a teenager’s sleeping despairs? Put down the electronics. Those late night text marathons need to stop because of the blue light intruding on sleep patterns.

Two? parents need to become more involved. Check your child is getting sleep. I’m sure an adolescent wouldn’t mind a mandated ‘sleep as much as you want’ Saturday. I’m a grown-up and I sure don’t mind it.
