January 19, 2015 By Andreas Petersen

NSA blame North Korea

In December, the U.S government blamed North Korea for the cyber attack of Sony Pictures.  The statement infuriated all the government of North Korea.

In the beginning of January, Barack Obama authorized sanction against North Korea.  Government of North Korea asked U.S government to provide evidence for this charge.

James Comey, FBI director said that North Koreans have failed to hide their tracks.  The U.S Internet authorities have gained the IP addresses of the posts and emails of hackers.   North Koreans used such kind of IPs addresses are only

Thus far, group of Sony hackers have attacked nearly majority of the confidential documents of the company. They got hold of salary spreadsheets, top secret emails, pre-release copies of films and much more. They utilized malicious software to break into thousands of computers of the Entertainment Company.

Additionally, the hackers of Sony Pictures threaten the company not to release “The Interview”.  The entire storyline of the film is based upon the assassination of a Supreme leader of North Korea. The threat against “The interview” gave hints about the involvement of North Korea in this matter

Recently, a document of N.S.A indicates that U.S National Security Agency began their hacking efforts in North Korea in 2010. The paper reveals that the U.S spy agency worked really hard to break into the internet networks of North Korea, China and Malaysia.

On the other hand, U.S intelligence officials decline to make any comment on this issue.

January 1, 2015 By Denise Ehrlich

The organization which infiltrated Sony Pictures Entertainment and stole almost 10 TB of Data has now threatened media organization.

Known as the Guardians of Peace (GOP), the group has proved to be a great headache for the Sony, looks inspired by the comedy movie that involves as assassination attempt against North Korean leader Kim Jong-un named “The Interview”.

The FBI’s Bulletin on Dec says that “threat by GOP against the news media organization may extend further to other organizations in near future”

In the Bulletin, FBI refers Sony as “USPER1” and the other news organization as “USPER2”. The GOP has taunted FBI and USPER2 in their message for their poor quality of investigation and implied additional threat.

News outlet Fox News said it was able to confirm with the FBI that the bulletin is real, however it’s being stressed that it doesn’t mean there’s any specific evidence of a threat to a news organization.

The official said “As part of our ongoing public-private partnerships, the FBI and DHS routinely share information with the private sector and law enforcement community, The FBI and DHS are not aware of any specific credible information indicating a threat to entertainment or news organizations, however, out of an abundance of caution, we will continue to disseminate relevant information observed during the course of our investigations.”

The FBI has already blamed North Korea for the Cyber Attacks on Sony in December 2014 but North Korea say that they had nothing to do with this incident.

Sony Cyberattack the biggest hack in modern times

December 31, 2014 By Cliff Jenkins Scott

America accused North Korea over the Sony Picture’s hack after FBI said that they believed North Korea was involved particularly because of the action comedy film in which the fictional assassination of Kim Jong-Un occurs. But one can’t deny that Sony Pictures witnessed one of the most deadly cyber attacks in modern times.

The hackers Guardians of Peace GOP gave a severe blow to Sony Pictures Entertainment by releasing a lot of private date and information about employees and celebrities associated with the company. Moreover, social security numbers and spreadsheet enlisting top executives along with their salaries were also released by the hackers. They not only destroyed property and leaked confidential information but also have created wave of terror in the market. The GOP sent threatening emails to employees mentioning the threat that hovers over them and their families. One of the emails stated that the group are very much aware of the internal workings of the organization involved and it became obvious that they might even have an inside man right in the center. Almost 75 % of the data from the organization’s servers was wiped out after stealing and still it did not stop there. 5 movies were stolen including the yet to be released Annie.

Michael Lynton, CEO of Sony Pictures along with co chairman Amy Pascal have tried a lot to just get over the crisis but it’s been a storm that hasn’t faded or diminished in its power and is still affecting the organization.

The Interview, the flick that caused all this mayhem still founded way to be released online and on some theaters on its schedule on Christmas Day. And the profits its showing can help the organization and its employees to reestablish their faith as a global force in the entertainment industry.

Seattle Times fake webpage made by FBI to catch a bomb suspect

October 28, 2014 By Cliff Jenkins Scott

fbi-used-api-story

FBI made up a fake news story on a bogus Seattle Times webpage in order to plant specific software on the computer of a suspect who had sent numerous bomb threats to Timberline High School way back in 2007, according to the documents received by the Electronic Frontier Foundation in San Francisco.

It was first publicized on Monday when Christopher Soghoian, the principal technologist for the American Civil Liberties Union revealed it on Twitter.

He called the incident outrageous and was of the view that it would severely detriment the public trust.

EFF documents reveal that the FBI created a fake story about the Thurston County bomb threats with an email link similar to that of Seattle Times. This link was sent to the suspect’s MySpace account. Upon clicking it, a hidden FBI software sent his location and Internet Protocol information to the agents. After which, the suspect was identified and arrested on June 14.

The affected newspaper responded severely and were outraged at the FBI, along with the assistance of US Attorney’s office, misused the name of The Seattle Times.

Kathy Best, an editor at The Seattle Times said ” Not only does that cross a line, it erases it. Our reputation and our ability to do our job as a government watchdog are based on trust. Nothing is more fundamental to that trust than our independence — from law enforcement, from government, from corporations and from all other special interests”.

A special agent in charge of the FBI in Seattle defended the investigation and the technique. “Every effort we made in this investigation had the goal of preventing a tragic event like what happened at Marysville and Seattle Pacific University. We identified a specific subject of an investigation and used a technique that we deemed would be effective in preventing a possible act of violence in a school setting. Use of that type of technique happens in very rare circumstances and only when there is sufficient reason to believe it could be successful in resolving a threat,” he said.
