A recent research unveiled that global warming will increase the lightning strikes up to 50 percent in the United States.
Experts informed that every 1.8 degree Fahrenheit of global warming will raise the frequency of lightening to 12 percent.
David Romps, an Earth science professor notified that it signifies that two lightning of 2000 will be transformed into three strikes in 2100.
This kind of increase in lightning can give birth to several wildfires in the United States. Currently, the country faces around 20 million lightning strikes every year. National Lightning Detection Network records each and every lighting that occurs in the United States. Thus far, the lightings were responsible for almost half of the wildfires of the country. Moreover, the lightening wildfires are more complicated to handle since they arise far from the populated regions.
Lighting is considered as an extremely deadly weather phenomenon in the United States. As per a latest report, annually 50 people die due to the lightning strikes in the country.
Romps stated that wildfires are one the common thing in the West. The warm areas and rainfall will soon lead to large fires in the future. The experts named these large fires as “megafires”.
