Higgs Boson Particle might not have been discovered yet

November 9, 2014 By Marlene R. Litten

The Higgs Boson particle, what’s best referred to as God particle, was stated to have been located in 2012 by physicists Peter Higgs and Francois Englert. However, some inside the science community have thought the particle might have never been discovered whatsoever. As well as their coalition of the skeptical audience keeps growing.

The happy couple won the Nobel Prize for finding Higgs Boson, but speculation began small, and it has created to a deafening roar now. The particle was stated to possess been produced using the European Organization for Nuclear Research’s Large Hadron Collider, and smashed protons together in an incredible speed. The collision was stated to become what really produced the particle.

Particularly, the researchers in the College of Southern Denmark’s Center for Cosmology & Particle Physics Phenomenology noted the scientists at CERN might have discovered something, however the specific Higgs Boson particle might possibly not have been discovered whatsoever within this test. They noted that there is no specific evidence to point out this was basically the particle they found, or that any particle found was not a normally unknown particle. Researchers though also stated that could have easily been a previously discovered particle too, however that the mass of questions that surround the particle are ultimately what result in the entire situation so questionable to begin with.

The Higgs Boson particle is basically the bottom type of all matter. Also known as the God particle, it receives that reputation for to be the particle that’s accountable for other stuff that exist. The invention was broadly-recognized, and congratulated due to the amount of questions the particle would answer. However, it might appear at this time all of the discovery has been doing is raise more questions regarding the authenticity from the discovery – some 2 yrs later.

One investigator named Mads Toudal Frandsen stated the particle which was discovered may be the techni-higgs particle. While there isn’t enough evidence to aid that either, it’s a similarly viable choice. He stated, “The current information is not precise enough to find out just what the particle is. Maybe it’s a quantity of other known contaminants.”

This kind of forthcoming nexus s the type which has really driven a wedge within the science community for this problem, and unquestionably is going to be raising more speculation and focus about them.

Questions still arise in the certainty of the Higgs Boson discovery

November 8, 2014 By June Harris

The discussion on the Higgs Boson, a particle that gives mass to other particles or more famously known as “god particle” has created a lot of debate and dogma since its inception. But now, some researchers are seriously casting doubt over the notion that the Higgs Boson was actually found.

A new research revealed that the particle found by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) might not be the Higgs Boson. According to physicists, CERN experiments had indeed discovered a particle that was unique and it had never been seen before. But an international research team also stated that there was not any substantial evidence that the particle was a Higgs Boson.

Mads Toudal Frandsen, associate professor at the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics Phenomenology, explained that Higgs particle is a part of the Standard Model in physics. It was true that it could give details about data and particle but there are some other explanations that are capable of providing that data from other particles, Frandsen said. He was of the view that the particle that CERN experiments had discovered last year might be called a techni-higgs particle, as it has some features of Higgs particle but it might not be right to claim it as a Higgs Particle.

More conclusive data is needed from CERN to prove the actual authenticity of this dilemma.

Matter-Antimatter Discovery From Princeton Scientists

October 4, 2014 By Denise Ehrlich

particle-matter-antimatter

In 1937 an Italian scientist named Ettore Majorana had theorized that there would be a particle that could have its own antimatter particle as part of its makeup. Seventy years later, Scientists from Princeton University have discovered this particle and the results have been published in the Journal Science.

The Princeton scientists created an experiment that allowed them to see an emergent particle that they could find inside a material. Like something out of a science fiction movie, the scientists had to build a microscope two stories tall to see the glowing new particle. Leader of the team, Physics professor Ali Yazdani pointed out that this discovery may lead to such applications as quantum computing. Quantum computing is a dream of industry, government, military, and consumers. It would make computers so fast and able to process data and store data at almost unimaginable levels. The sheer magnitude of the possible applications means the world we know of as far as computer efficiency could change in ways hitherto unheard of.

The experiment they engineered called for them to place an extended chain created of pre magnetic iron atoms. The iron atoms were placed on a superconductor that was composed of lead. When scientists cooled the material to a bone shattering -457 degrees Fahrenheit they then peered at the material through the giant microscope they had created. They then observed that a primary property of Majoranafermion, named after the Italian physicist, could be seen at the ends of the iron wires. It was the electrical neutral signal they were looking for.

It is inevitable that the researchers will be inundated by inquiries from government and industry as well as academia. To discover a particle that displays both the characteristics of matter and antimatter is not only rare but until recently, thought impossible. Common thought is that when matter meets antimatter, which is very rare, the two particles will explode and annihilate one another. Thought to be a source of incalculable power, antimatter has been observed and collected by some researchers. If a particle like this new one can be harnessed for energy the sky would be the limit.

More research will be called for as other scientists will need to chime in after reproducing the experiment and seeing if the same results can be had.

Particle & Anti-particle, Scientists Make Strange Discovery

October 3, 2014 By Carol Harper

particle-and-anti-particle-strange-discovery

The long search is over for Princeton University scientists who claim they have discovered a particle, an elusive particle, that has the characteristics of both matter and antimatter.

This discovery was published online at the journal Science.

Already speculation as to what this new particle will be applicable for are being bounced around by scientists. Many people had been taught that if matter came into contact with antimatter that the two would annihilate one another in a burst of powerful energy. Antimatter is rare and to find a particle that has both matter and its antimatter characteristics is enough to make everyone stand up and take notice.

Known as the Majorana fermion, after it’s Italian physicist theorist Ettore Majorana, who postulated it in 1937, this new particle is just what he had envisioned. Scientists had been hunting for the particle for almost 80 years. The Princeton team engineered a basic experiment to see what they referred to as an “emergent particles” that can be found inside a material instead in the vacuum of a giant collider like the Large Hadron Collider that recently discovered the Higgs Boson particle or “God Particle”.

Scientists are practically leaping with joy as this discovery might lead to applications in the quantum computing field.

The researchers achieved this amazing observation by placing a thin, long chain of magnetic iron atoms that were pure on a superconductor constructed from lead. Cooling the materials to -457 degrees Fahrenheit and looked the the results via a 20ft tall scanning tunneling microscope. Suddenly, bingo, the researchers discovered an electrically neutral signal found at the ends of the wires made of iron. This observation the “key signature” that led them to determine they had found that elusive Majorana Fermion once and for all.

Again, the application for quantum computing means that now the engineers can make a quantum bit, the first stage in making a quantum computer.

For over 70 years this particle had been sought after. Theorized and debated. Some other scientists caution that its too early to make all the claims that the research teams are making and that further testing and observation be done to make the discover conclusive. If all pans out and quantum computing becomes feasible, the entire world will be looking at a new age of computing the likes of which only science fiction writers could come up with.

This discovery indeed must have further research before a practical application can be done and it may be several years before anything hits the store shelves but then again there’s no telling. In today’s computing and commerce driven society the competition is so fierce that even with agreed upon regulation there will be those who will breach it for monetary gain.

Mr. Majorana’s theory is now reality. The second groundbreaking particle physics change since the Higgs Boson discovery of a few years ago.
