CD Projekt Red Teases Cyberpunk 2077 In-game Trailer at E3

June 12, 2018 By June Harris

Cyberpunk 2077

First Cyberpunk 2077 in-game teaser trailer at E3 2018.

It’s happening, folks, it really is happening! During this year’s E3, CD Projekt Red, the mastermind behind the critically-acclaimed Witcher franchise, has unveiled the much-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 game trailer. Needless to say, the audience exploded with joy knowing that the game’s still alive and kicking.

What to Expect from Cyberpunk 2077?

Unfortunately, as it happens with all CD Projekt Red’s teasers, the latest in-game trailer left us with more questions than answers. Not that the presentation trailer was chattier, but this one really managed to stir the spirits.

As you know, the first trailer leaked by CD Projekt Red painted a rather uncanny picture – the cybernetically-enhanced chick standing there motionless, while a bullet bounces off her face, and the dude with the strange visor standing behind her with his gun pointing at the chick.

The 2-minute clip could pass as boring if not for the background and for the Bladerunner vibe it gives. Yes, from what we can tell, Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be an eclectic blend of Witcher-type storytelling, Bladerunner, Judge Dredd, and perhaps something from Demolition Man.

So far, all we know for sure is that the game could be months away from hitting the shelves. Story-wise, a couple of months ago, CD Projekt Red mentioned something about the plot taking place in Night City, a dystopian megalopolis, where cybernetic implants are more valuable than money, drugs or human lives.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the character’s progression is based on the number of implants you find, steal or even kill for. Presumably, there’s an implant out there that helps you understand what other NPCs want from you.

Conclusion

Several CD Projekt Red fans argued that the so-called language implant could work in the same manner as the translation matrixes from No Man’s Sky.

And no, we don’t know if the main character will run into Ciri, but chances are that we will find out soon enough.

Bethesda Teases Doom Eternal Trailer During E3

June 11, 2018 By Carol Harper

Doom Eternal

Bethesda announces Doom Eternal during E3 2018.

During E3, Bethesda announced that a new Doom game would soon hit PCs and consoles. Called Doom Eternal, Bethesda’s upcoming Doom sequel will pick up the story where the last game left it. Here’s everything you’ll need to know about the game. A word of warning – this article contains a couple of spoilers.

Doom Eternal to Feature a War-Torn Earth

Because nothing beats a couple of rounds in Doom after a hard day at the office, Bethesda announces that new Doom game is on the way.

Unfortunately, all we know so far is that game’s called Doom Eternal and, based on Bethesda’s E3 teaser trailer; it will probably take place on Earth or possibly on a human colony.

As you know, the last Doom ended with Samuel Hayden’s betrayal and his promise of releasing the faceless space marine when the time is right.

Despite Hayden’s blatantly G-Man-like demeanor, Bethesda’s ending hinted that the Doom guy’s story is far from over. Still, given the fact that all four Doom games plus the countless mods and fan-made stuff, were all happening on Mars, it’s reasonable to assume that Bethesda’s been compelled to choose an entirely different setting.

Now, based on the teaser trailer, the plot appears to place in a war-torn, Earth-like world. Again, we don’t know for sure if that’s really our planet, but it does appear to be a human settlement.

From what we can tell, Hayden’s plans to contain the big boss of Hell failed, meaning that demons are running amok.  This shouldn’t come as a surprise given that UAC’s top cat was Hell-bent on siphoning energy from the other side, regardless of costs.

Conclusion

And now comes the $1 million question – how did Doom guy escape Hayden’s cage? Well, as always, we will have to stick around to find out.

Valve Criticized for Marketing a School Shooting Simulator

May 29, 2018 By Carol Harper

Valve Corporation recently came under fire after news of an upcoming school shooting simulator was released. Several concerned parents, some of whom lost their children in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre, said that the game “desensitizes” teenagers to such tragedies.

School Shooting Simulator Accompanied by Disclaimer

The upcoming title is called “Active Shooter” and, according to developer Revived Games, it’s a SWAT-type simulator.

Players will be able to take sides – SWAT or shooter. Based on the player’s choice, he or she will either have to deal with an active shooter or rake up as much kills as possible before being taken into custody.

Disturbingly enough, when the players take the role of the shooter, they will need to plan their massacre in order to kill as many students or teachers before the SWAT team moves in.

Obviously, when news of Revived Games’ school shooting simulator hit the press, many have voiced their concern, accusing the developer and publisher of capitalizing on a tragedy such as Marjory Stoneman High School.

Acid, the game’s publisher, recently wrote in a blog post that “Active Shooter” does not promote violence and that the game shouldn’t be taken seriously.

More than that, the game’s Steam description is followed by a footnote which encourages players to seek professional help they feel like hurting people.

Acid added that given the game’s controversial side, it will think about removing the shooter part.

Conclusion

The school shooting simulator was slated for launch on June the 6th. However, given its negative impact, the publisher might be thinking about moving the launch date or canceling the game altogether.

Andrew Pollack, the father of Meadow Pollack, who was gunned down by Nikolas Cruz on the 14th of February, declared that Steam should really think twice before making the game available.

AT&T and Verizon Announce Red Hydrogen One, World’s First Holographic Smartphone

May 21, 2018 By Carol Harper

Tired of swiping and typing on your smartphone’s screen? If so, you’ll get along splendidly with Red Hydrogen One, the world’s first holographic smartphone. Slated for launch in Q1 2018, the phone will be able to recognize hand gestures as well as capture 3D images.

Red Hydrogen One To Be Used With AR Glasses

The upcoming Red Hydrogen One is the brainchild of carriers Verizon and AT&T, as well as Red, a video equipment startup.

According to the smartphone’s presentation website, Red Hydrogen One is or at least expected to be the one who puts Android out of commission.

Unfortunately, the phone makers were a little vague about specifications and features. However, as far as we can tell, the upcoming smartphone relies mostly on pre-programmed hand gestures and proximity sensors.

There are a couple of hands-on videos that show some of the things you can do with the phone. In one clip, a guy shows how the phone plays with your depth perception.

It’s still a turn-off to see that most of the phone’s features have been intentionally blurred out, but, then again, they do enjoy a mystery.

Spec-wise, Red Hydrogen One should be outfitted with the latest in cameras and sensors. We should probably look forward to an 8GB RAM, as the phone needs a lot of juice for the applications.

As for the hologram part, according to Red, the smartphone will be capable of ‘projecting’ interactive images. We don’t know for sure if they’re referring to actual hovering holograms, like in Star Wars or if the phone’s screen will only give you the impression of 3D.

Conclusion

The Red Hydrogen Oneis expected to come out at the end of summer. As far as pricing goes, users will be able to preorder their gizmos from the official website.

There are two models available: aluminum for $1,295 or titanium for $1,595.

Reddit User to Streamline App for Fake Celebrity Porn Videos

January 27, 2018 By Marlene R. Litten

Fake Celebrity Porn on Reddit

Reddit user ready to upscale fake celebrity porn algorithm.

Because regular porn is just too boring, a Reddit user has just announced that he’s about to take his fake celebrity porn gig to the next level. After Wonder Woman’s appearance Reddit user deepfakes announced that he’s currently working on a portable version of the app.

What’s Fake Celebrity Porn?

The trend started back in December 2017, when a couple of videos depicted popular celebrities like Gal Gadot doing nasties popped out on the Internet. Obviously, the community figured out that the clip is as fake as plastic flowers,  but it did manage to catch on.

So, come 2018, it would appear that not only more fake celebrity porn videos are started to crawl out, but also more people are volunteering for the job of actually making them. The author of these videos is a Reddit user who goes by the name of deepfakes.

Using an AI-powered algorithm, the user managed to create an app that matches celebrity facial expression to a porn industry lookalike. Also, since the ‘leak’ of the Gal Gadot video, the algorithm has been improved, being capable of doing the actual matching process with uncanny accuracy.

In a recent Reddit post, deepfakes announced that he would start using machine learning in order to improve the facial swap algorithm further. He will not be alone in this endeavor, as the user managed to amass a community of 15,000 users.

His endgame is to create an easy to deploy and employ an application, that’s capable of swapping facial expressions from a pre-defined online library. The application can potentially swap faces inside the video, without any additional tweaking.

Conclusion

Although it might sound like bogus, it seems that several users employed deepfakes’ face-swapping algorithm with some degree of success, making fake celebrity porn videos featuring Mauricio Macri and even Adolph Hitler.

Citra Emu Team to Deliver Nintendo Switch Emulator for PC

January 17, 2018 By Carol Harper

Nintendo Switch emulator.

Citra Emu getting closer to developing a stable Nintendo Switch emulator.

Great news for all PC game fans who wanted to take out the Nintendo Switch for a spin. In a recent social media post, the team behind the 3DS emulator has announced that its members are diligently working on a functional Nintendo Switch emulator for PC.

Nintendo Switch Emulator – A Dream Come True

Although the idea of a completely functional Nintendo Switch emulator is not something new under the sun, it would appear that Citra Emu is on the right track this time. Code-named yuzu, the Nintendo Switch emulator currently in the works should behave pretty much like its console counterpart.

Bordering on illegal, the company carries on, bringing us that little piece of heaven created by the guys from Nintendo. And to show that they really mean business this time, the team also the picture of one of the games PC users will be able to enjoy – Space game.

As far as timelines are concerned, unfortunately, we can’t say for sure when the final edit of the Nintendo Switch emulator for PC will come out. All we know for sure is that the team is busy hacking away through thousands of code lines, but it’s still comforting to know that they haven’t abandoned the project.

What’s even more awesome is that the Citra Emu team didn’t lose time waiting around for Nintendo. Even if the console was launched year in March and it usually takes some time, even years, to come up with a stable PC port, the guys have already laid the first bricks in what could be the next big thing after CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 is in the works.

Conclusion

For now, the only thing we can do is to wait around some more until we hear from the team.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is Still in the Making, CD Projekt Red Announced

January 13, 2018 By Waleed Javed

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 just became active.

No doubt that one of the most anticipated triple-A games of the last couple of years is Cyberpunk 2077, a sand-box style story-driven RPG developed by The Witcher series developers. Announced back in 2012, CD Projekt Red’s brain-child seems to have faded into anonymity for the past four years. But things seem to be looking up, as the game’s Twitter account mysteriously came to life overnight.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is Definitely on the Right Track

The message that managed to rile up every CD Projekt Red fan out there is pretty basic but packs quite a lot of punch – *Beep-*. Sorry to disappoint you, but that’s all that the devs had to say about how the production is going.

While many fans have interpreted this as a good omen, since the company was careful enough to keep a lid on this project for more than four years, others believe that it might well be another goose chase.

Just to refresh your memory, Cyberpunk 2077 is or rather, should be, a story-driven first-person perspective sand-box style RPG. Set in distant and dystopic future, the game tells the story of the Night City and its inhabitants.

While it’s true that it’s far from easy to live in the shadow of The Witcher series, CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would not be your garden variety RPG and exploration game. Featuring the latest advancements in the area of RPG game mechanics, the company promised their fans total immersions and unparalleled combat and world exploration system.

Players will be able to explore the Night City at their own leisure and place while completing main and side quests. One of the game’s centerpiece is no doubt the language interpretation system. Since Night City is the definition of cosmopolitanism, its inhabitants will speak in various tongues.

To be able to understand them, the player will need to buy, steal or loot translation implants.

Conclusion

So, when’s the game due to hit the market? While the company is still giving its fans the cold shoulder when it comes to the official launch date, it would appear that we must wait until 2019 for fresh Cyberpunk 2077 news.

Japanese Dev Uses Face ID to Make His Face Transparent

December 29, 2017 By Andreas Petersen

iPhone X with its Face ID technology

The developer used a few tricks and the Face ID sensors to turn his face transparent

Face ID, the most popular feature of iPhone X, attracted everyone’s interest this year. Starting with all the possibilities it offers to the users to some security breaches, it remained in the spotlight during the last months of 2017. Now, a Japanese developer managed to perform a surprising but apparently useful trick with Face ID, which looks both disturbing and funny. He erased his face with the tool, and recorded a video to show how this is possible.

The developer made his face transparent

Kazuya Noshiro, or @noshipu, is a video game developer for ViRD. He knew how the sensors used by Face ID can be used in gaming, as well as for art or other visual apps. This is why he decided to play with them and revealed some more quirky things you can do with them.

In a ten-second video he posted on Twitter, he showed us how he used the Face ID sensors to erase his face almost completely. The only things that remained visible were his eyes and mouth, which kept moving, creating an eerie image. He described the trick as optical camouflage, and said he couldn’t really tell if it had any practical use.

He used several tricks with the help of the Face ID sensors

To the disappointment of the viewers, he didn’t explain how he did the trick. However, he still offered some clues. One user asked him if he recorded the background before using the Face ID sensors to scan his face, and he admitted that was true.

If he covered his face and eyes while recording the face, he could place the background over his face and make it look transparent. Thanks to the sensors of the phone, he could sync the recordings with the movement of the camera and make everything look real.

This was a great example of what the iPhone X could do. Such sensors are likely to be widely used in the future, not only because of security systems like Face ID, but also for entertainment or creative purposes.

Witcher 3 Gets an Update to Suit Xbox One X’s Capabilities

December 23, 2017 By Andreas Petersen

Screenshot showing a fight in Witcher 3

Witcher 3 has received a special Xbox One X update

The exclusive new Xbox console, Xbox One X, has been out for a few months now, so developers have started releasing updates to suit the capacities of the powerful gaming system. Witcher 3 is one of those games, and the new version has plenty of advantages over the PC one. The performance is a lot better and, of course, 4K graphics are included as well.

The Witcher 3 update introduced HDR support

If you own a sophisticated PC, then your version of Witcher 3 must have adjusted similarly to the newest update. Xbox One X is about as powerful as a PC, so the game features are also similar. However, the console version offers more. It has HDR support, while the other one doesn’t. Then, the graphics, textures, and resolution per se are the same.

Of course, don’t expect the two versions to be completely identical. The console and the PC still offer different environments, so there are some elements which are present only in the PC version. Take, for instance, the NVIDIA HairWorks. However, the developers decided to include HDR support in Witcher 3 only on the Xbox One X version.

The new graphics and features have been modeled after Xbox One X’s power

The update will bring a bigger visual impact to the game. The console is probably the most powerful which has been released to date, so the developers couldn’t miss the chance to take advantage of it. Therefore, Witcher 3 will come with two options which are available for graphics.

One of the options is a Regular Mode, which runs on normal graphics and resolution. The Performance Mode, apart from boosting the speed of the game, will also increase the resolution. This will run on a minimum of 1080p, and can easily switch to 4K. Moreover, it will display shadows and textures in a more sensitive way, and the entire look will get enhanced.

Streamer DrDisRespect Enters Hiatus as He Admits His Infidelity

December 17, 2017 By Andreas Petersen

Twitch logo in shades of blue and purple

DrDisRespect will stop making live streams for an undetermined period of time

Twitch users were amazed to find out that one of the most popular streamers, DrDisRespect, or Doc for his followers, will stop recording live streams. His decision is not permanent, but he now wants to dedicate more time to his family. This was somehow expected, as he admitted to cheating on his wife during the same video where he announced his break.

DrDisRespect took a break from streaming

DrDisRespect shocked his fans with one unusual stream which had nothing to do with gaming. Instead of recording himself while playing, he appeared as his alter ego Guy Beahm (which is actually his real identity). Then, he decided to discuss serious subjects, and revealed he wanted to be honest with his followers.

He declared himself grateful for his beautiful family, but a shadow obscured his marriage. He admitted to having cheating on his wife, which forced him to enter a hiatus. He said he needed more time for himself, to spend with his family. This way, maybe he would be able to save his marriage and apologize to his wife.

The streamer admitted to having cheated on his wife

DrDisRespect apologized to all his fans, to those who sponsor him, and to the platform Twitch. He didn’t want to upset anybody, but doesn’t support such a behavior. Therefore, he felt he needed to clarify some things and encourage people not to act like that.

The reactions to this confession video were both positive and negative. Some users blamed him for his behavior towards his wife, while others showed their admiration for him. Fans will keep supporting him, and are happy he was brave enough to publicly admit his deeds.

Over the past year, many YouTube streamers and fans started claiming that DrDisRespect was unfaithful. Although they didn’t offer any evidence to support this claim, some said Doc finally decided to admit his infidelity because of these declarations.
