Facebook Crack Down On ‘Real Name’ Policy

October 2, 2014 By Carol Harper

facebook-real-name-policy

Facebook is on the rampage but doing it with finesse as it cracks down on fake namesfollowing a row with the LGBT community.

The LGBT community started leaving Facebook in order to created pseudonyms. It all began when several weeks past Facebook dropped the hammer on several hundred drag performers. These performers were reported as fake. The way Facebook authenticated accounts was by asking the suspect account holder to supply identification that they were using their real name. This 10 year policy worked well. Facebook never demanded people use their real name but they support when people do. To battle the fakers however the big news is that Facebook is developing new authentication tools that should put the issue to rest once and for all.

This news should shake the foundations of Facebook and all the fake people who use Facebook to run scams and cause mischief. It doesn’t mean that everyone will have to use their real name but if they use a pseudo name they’ll have to provide credentials of some sort. The drag queen performers heralded the decision by Facebook stating that it was a good step forward.

Facebook’s bread and butter is its membership base. If that base gets compromised they risk losing them as they did with the LGBT community. Loss of members means loss in revenue and that could affect stocks. Facebook doesn’t need or want any competition to knock it off the top of the heap so this change in procedure is a smart move on their part. The big question is will it work. Facebook hasn’t disclosed the process by which they’ll do all this so it’s still up in the air what will transpire.

It might take months for anyone to see major results and it may bring about a cleaning of the house and dropping the liability that comes from fake accounts where drugs, violence, hate speech, and scams are prevalent. Making the Facebook community safe would mean greater trust, revenue, and a possible boost in stocks already high as they are.

Taking a proactive stance but being compassionate at the same time is enough left Facebook with no bruises but also opens the door to greater responsibility on their part that they have to prove.

Chinese Smugglers Making Big Bucks on iPhone 6

September 27, 2014 By June Harris

iPhone 6In Hong Kong, two days after the new iPhone went on sale, custom officers see some people loading boxes into speedboat in one of the remote area.

When the officers approached, the men jumped into the boat and sped off, leaving behind 15 boxes packed with new iPhones.

It has been reported that, the smuggling act is only a small linkage in such a huge network, which is especially formed to satisfy the substantial demands of the iPhones in China. Just remember, it’s the place where authorities have yet needed to consent the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.

As per the recent report, Apple AAPL, Tech30 has not yet announced that when they are going to sell the latest smartphones in its second largest market. Last week, the state media reported that iPhone 6 has not yet got a key license in China.

All this is done by smugglers, for the purpose of dropping the prices of iPhones which are lawfully bought in Apple stores in New York. This is considered to be big issue, for iPhone supporters who pay millions of dollars for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+. CNN found few sellers outside an Apple stores in Beijing, reported on Wednesday.

According to a report, officers found smugglers selling a new iPhone 6 at 1800 dollars. It was a big question mark, from where did these phones come? According to the report, these iPhones are shipped from Hong Kong and in this scenario the smuggler would be making over 1000 dollars per phone.

Hong Kong is considered to be a key hub of apple iPhones and three stores of Phones are running, these iPhones are designed in china for avoiding taxes on import. This Smuggling movement appears to be efficient. On Monday, customs officers found 20 new iPhones concealed in containers in a truck leaving for the mainland.

Authorities across the border in Shenzhen seized more than 600 iPhones over a three day period, reported by local media. Nearly 40 mafias working on this have been caught at the city’s ports.

Chinese market is considered to be very important for Apple. But the iPhone maker has tripped up there in recent years, losing ground in the Smartphone race to rivals, including Xiaomi, that offer cheaper phones. Apple signed a contract last year with China Mobile to offer the iPhone, in a bid to enlarge its way. China Mobile is the world’s largest transporter by subscribers, with around 700 million users or more than twice the population of the U.S.
