Around 100 million Americans, which is equal to 31 percent of the entire population, suffers from chronic pain. Recently, National Institute of Health formed a board to tackle the current situation of chronic pain.
The panel discovered that majority of the patients of chronic pain do not receive proper treatment. Approximately 5 to 8 million chronic pain patients use unnecessary opioids to manage their pain for long duration.
Additionally, the report unveiled that the deaths related to overdose of opioid has increased in the past few years. Nowadays, a large number of doctors prescribe unnecessary opioids drugs to patients. They do not carefully examine the condition of pain in patients.
The author of the report states that the biggest difficulty is to recognize the condition in which usage of opioid is appropriate.
Moreover, the researchers observed that usually patients refuse to take effective but extensive treatment for chronic pain. It is one of the major causes of the overdose of opioids. Thus, it is essential to organize a few awareness programs to inform patients about opioids.
Hence, researchers released a special report to show the wrong methods of treating chronic pain. They also give some useful tips to the patients of chronic pain in their final report. They tried really hard to avert the excessive use of opioids in patients through their report.
