Windows 10 is almost here. And when I say almost, I mean that we’ll all be able to enjoy it in just a few hours as the operating system (OS) is set to launch tomorrow (July 29, 2015).
If disasters such as Windows Vista and Windows 8 have killed your excitement when it comes to new Windows versions, Windows 10 may just remind you of what you once loved about the company.
So without further to say, here are 10 things you need to know about Windows 10:
1) What do you mean there’s no Windows 9? Well, do you remember just how much you hater Windows 8 when it came out? Do you remember not being able to find the Start menu? Do you remember apps automatically launching in fullscreen? Do you remember not being able to do anything unless you were using a device with touchscreen?
If you answered yes, Microsoft is fully aware of that and has named the new operating system Windows 10 in an attempt to put more distance between their colossal failure and their new product, and to highlight Windows 10’s great number of updates.
2) Windows 10 actually managed to fix everything that was wrong with Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. If you currently have Windows 7 than the upgrade to Windows 10 should feel like a natural progression. You’ll be able to find the Start menu where you expect to find it, your computer will be faster, and you will also be introduced to Cortana, Microsoft’s version of Siri.
3) Do you know what the best part is? It turns out that the operating system doesn’t even require the latest computer on the market in order to work properly. If you have a reasonably new computer that already runs on Windows 7 or Windows 8, then Windows 10 should cause no problems for you.
4) So at this point you may be wondering where you can buy it from. The answer is the internet. But “buy” is a strong word. If you’re currently using Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 you can download Windows 10 for free and you will be able to enjoy the upgrade for an entire year before having to pay for it.
5) So what happens if someone has brand new computer without an operating system or is still using Windows XP or Windows Vista? Well, sad truth is that these users will have to pay for Windows 10. The operating system sells for $119 if you’d like to buy Windows 10 Home and $199 if you’d like to buy Windows 10 Professional.
