Wednesday, in Common Pleas Court, Judge William Mahon sentenced 690 years in jail for the worst child abuser, the Phoenixville man, Warren Earl Yerger Sr., who was arrested on December 2014.
The precise sentence in what has now become known as ”one of the worst criminal cases in Chester County”, as stated by Deputy District Attorney Deborah Ryan, who prosecuted Yerger, in her 17-page sentencing memo, is 339 to 690 years in prison, on child sex abuse charges. This is probably the longest sentence that has ever been handed down in a criminal case in the county.
This sentence resulted from the consecutive jail terms that the man was found guilty of, bestowed for each of his four victims, on the multiple charges of rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, which are both first-degree felonies.
The District Attorney comments that this case of abuse amounted to a decades-long reign of terror and humiliation for the children who were the victims of the named abuser.
She considers that a much harsher sentenced would have been required, considering the atrocities this man has committed but, because of state regulation, this is not possible.
As resulting from official documents and declarations of witnesses, the 52 year old man was responsible for nursing four young children, one boy and three girls, during the years 1989 to 2012.
Instead, throughout this interval of time, Warren Earl Yerger Sr. actually forced the children, who were less then 10 years old, to undertake deviate sexual intercourse with him and sometime with one another. At his trial in December, each of the young children, victims of the abuser, explained in detail about the sexual acts Yerger forced them to perform.
Moreover, Yerger also abused the children physically, by starving them, and heaping emotional abuse on them, on a daily basis, according to their testimonies. Most of these abuses happened at the man’s residences, situated in the counties of Chester, Berks, McKean and Montgomery.
Being only three years old, the youngest child is the most traumatized of all, as proven by medical expertise. As a result of the incredible trauma they have experienced, all four minor children are severely traumatized and they need to be placed under special medical observation throughout the following period of time.
Doctors will make all necessary efforts to provide them adequate care, psychological support and consultancy in order to overcome the horrific experience.
