California Toddler Uses Slain Grandparent’s Phone to Call Authorities
On Thursday, at around 3 a.m., the Amador County deputies were summoned to a Pine Grove home after a woman claimed that her son gunned down his family.
After arrived at the location, the authorities discovered the bodies of 26-year-old Jacob Jedidiah Thayer, 27-year-old Marie Ann Leonetti, his wife, and 60-year-old Richard Thayer II, the woman’s father.
The authorities were contacted by Thayer’s 60-year-old mother who received a disturbing call from her 4-year-old niece who was in the house when the incident occurred.
Based on the girl’s testimony and the coroner’s report, the investigators determined that several minutes before the woman contacted the authorities, Jacob used his legally-owned gun and executed his wife and father. Both victims had a single gunshot wound to their heads, indicating that the perpetrator probably shot them while they were fast asleep.
Next to Thayer II’s and Leonetti’s bodies, the authorities discovered Jacob’s corpse with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
At around 3 a.m. the California toddler, who has not been named in this investigation, heard three gunshots coming from the house. Minutes later, she discovered the lifeless bodies of her father, mother, and grandfather.

According to the authorities, the 4-year-old picked up her grandfather’s cellphone and used it to call her grandmother, who was away caring for a relative. After arriving at the house and finding the bodies, the 60-year-old woman contacted the authorities.
At the moment, the sheriff’s deputies have yet to uncover the shooter’s motive. The girl’s grandmother said that there were no signs of her son being capable of killing his family.
