Based on a recent medical research, doctors say overweight people cannot slim down. Physicians at the National Institute for Health Research have reached this conclusion after analyzing the medical records of 278,982 people during a decade’s time interval.
The recent medical findings might give little hope to overweight people, especially those who were making efforts to change their bad habits and improve their diets. In spite of the disappointing announcement, we believe people, who suffer from obesity should not feel discouraged by the recent finding. On the contrary, they should pay increasingly more attention to their body weight so they would not develop weight problmes.
The research claiming that obese people have small chances of losing weight has been published by the National Institute for Health Research in the United Kingdom. Scientists have analyzed the medical records of 278,982 patients, who had been previously diagnosed with obesity. The group of respondents was made up out of 129,194 men and 149,788 women, researchers have specified.
Medical experts have carefully observed the behavior of the people and their health evolution within the last ten years. They have, thus, reached the conclusion that very few respondents have actually managed to reach their normal weights, even though they have applied nutrition experts’ advice.
In awe of the recent finding, scientists have concluded that medical programs against obesity might not be as effective as doctors claim they are. Statistics have indicated that only one person in a batch of 100 participants has attained his/her initial body mass, so researchers have concluded that nutrition programs must be revisited.
Chances of recovery differ from one gender to another, according to the recent study that was published in the American Journal of Public Health. Nutrition experts have come to the conclusion that men, who have been obese for more than a year, have 1 chance in 210 to slim down to their regular size. For women, the percentage is of one chance in 124.
Authorities at the National Institute for Health Research believe the current weight loss programs, which rely on small caloric intakes and increased physical activity, must be replaced with more efficient programs. They have also stated that the best solution in this case would be to educate people, so they would not develop obese problems, at all.
Obesity is a serious problem in the United Stated where 17 percent children and 91 million adult individuals suffer from overweight issues. The increased body fat mass can lead to other health problems including heart attacks and diabetes.
