General Motors declared that it will carry out six new safety recalls in the United States. These six recalls would be conducted to deal with the problem related to the ignition of the car. It will include nearly 7.6 million vehicles.
Mary Barra, CEO of the company stated that they are going to perform the most extensive safety review of the company. This recall will certainly mark a new record in the history of the company since it includes models as old as 1997. The chief reason behind this recall is to establish a novel standard for the protection of vehicles.
Thus far, Barra is informed about seven crashes, eight injuries and three deaths. However, there is no definite proof that the problem associated with the ignition is the reason of these crashes.
Moreover, the CEO stated that the company would solve this issue by transferring the hole present on the vehicles key head to a relatively smaller hole.
The company assumes to bear a high cost of nearly $ 1.2 billion in the second quarter on the year. The cost of older recall is also included in this amount.

Therefore, it is recommended that customers should take off all the items of their key rings apart from the vehicle key.
