In a new update, Google Maps will be your guide for the holidays and will essentially be telling you where you can go and when. It offers an excellent advantage that might just make the feature a bit more popular. Although, it’s far ahead of its competition regardless.
The search giant announced that their popular Google Maps option has been updated. From now on, it will present holiday hours for retail stores, restaurants, or other establishments. This will imply information on places around Thanksgiving, Boxing Day, Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year’s, and many others.
According to product manager, Jonathan Sidi, users will now be able to know whether or not their destination will be open. And it could be quite frustrating to drive all the way around town and find the place closed. It’s the source of annoyances and an unfortunate amount of time wasted. Knowing before getting there could be a very useful option.
This will save users who cannot find the location’s official website, or do not have time to call and ask. Google Maps will be there to spare the effort. The popular feature will show the schedule, and will now display a special mark for places with a change in their hours. For example, the feature will have specific notices, such as “Christmas Eve might affect these hours”.
Google Maps will be informing both its mobile and desktop users through the new add-on. So, if you’re curious whether or not your favorite restaurant will be closed during Christmas, the tech giant has your back. It will provide details on the schedule, active hours, and closed days, if there are any.
Furthermore, Google Maps will allow users to properly filter information. This will enable them to use the “Open Now” option. By turning it on, the Local Search will only display results of restaurants, coffee shops, or retail stores that are open. Anything else that would be closed will not appear in the search results.
Reportedly, this will be available at least one week in advance. You might not be able to find out now, but seven days before Thanksgiving, for example, you could put in a quick search. The feature will be rolling out all over the world, which means it will be available for everyone.
Owners of local businesses can now modify or set their establishment’s schedule through Google’s My Business Help. It will be displayed on Google Search, and will allow for details or notices on special hours. At least this will spare some users an unfortunate wasted trip or time.
