A new scandal has recently emerged in connection to the affairs going on at the Harvard University. This time, racial discrimination is the reason why some people have started to raise accusations. On Friday, a complaint has been made public, according to which the Harvard University acts in a biased way when it comes to a specific racial group. And with Harvard accused of discrimination against Asian-Americans, things are starting to get pretty rough for the officials representing one of the most famous and respected universities that the world has ever seen.
The complaint that has been made public on Friday claims that the Asian-Americans are being discriminated by the Harvard University, in terms of setting higher requirements for admission and scores at the exams for the Asian-Americans than it does in connection to other racial groups. You may say that it is not unusual, if you fancy comedy websites and think that Asians are by nature smart and always ready for tough exams, but this time this is serious and is certainly not something to kid about.
The authors of the complaint are a group of 64 organizations that work in order to lower the effects of discrimination and to change people`s mentality towards it. In their complaint, they have claimed that quotas have been set by the Harvard University in order to keep the percentage of Asian-American students at a low rate. The authors of the complaint have added that the professors in charge of examination value this hypothetical plan more than the quality of the applications by the Asian-American students.
The complaint also includes a research made by a third party, which shows that Asian-Americans have to score more than other groups in their SAT exams in order to have equal chances of being accepted by the Harvard University. According to the study, the Asian-Americans have to score 140 points higher than the white students, their SAT results have to be in average 270 points higher than the results of the Hispanic students and 450 points more than the Afro-American students.
“Many studies have indicated that Harvard University has been engaged in systemic and continuous discrimination against Asian-Americans during its very subjective ‘Holistic’ college admissions process,”
the authors of the complaint have written.
The group of 64 organizations says that a federal investigation of the matter is required and urges the Harvard University to stop using racial biases and stereotypes when they have to examine Asian-American students.
