With Christmas approaching everyone is ordering gifts online or sending presents to their loved ones so holiday deliveries are the next big issue.
What’s with the rush
Every year, Christmas Eve is the day you go out for last minute Christmas Shopping. But despite the small things you forget to buy each year, you always check mostly everything and everyone on your gift list way before the holidays.
There can be various reasons for this. One of them is that you can get items for a cheaper price. Another one is that you want to avoid the crowds that roam the stores if you’re a ‘traditional’ buyer or you want to avoid late delivery if you prefer to purchase your gifts online.
Why are Christmas packages late
Holiday deliveries always get crazy to say the least. What happens is that too many people want to send too many things and delivery and postal services are having trouble handling the huge amount of holiday work. Because of this, many packages arrive long after Christmas, so your aunt June might not get her Christmas card this year.
What’s different this year
However, for this holiday season, the U.S. Postal service as well as delivery companies such as FedEx or UPS are trying to organize better in order to be able to deliver your gifts in time for Christmas.
They expect the package delivery volume to grow about 10 percent across the country. If you’re wondering how exactly they will bring you package in time if they didn’t manage it last year, here are some of the measures both Post Offices and UPS and FedEx are taking.
All of these delivery services are hiring. The Post started hiring a few months back and so far they reached the number of 900 postmen, who will be delivering packages seven days a week. So, even though uncle Vernon might disagree, there is post on Sundays. Moreover, the Post also has acquired new package sorting machines that are said to be very fast and they immediately put them to work.
UPS is also announced 1,500 openings in spring and has still got 100 of them to fill up. What’s more is that retailers are also going to be a lot more careful about delivering their products this year. After all, they don’t want to lose their customers over late-deliveries. Therefore, the deadline for packages you want until Christmas is December 15. Anything ordered after that might be getting to you next year.
In conclusion, hurry up and order your gifts or send them to your loved ones before this Tuesday or there are not going to be much things under the Christmas tree.
