Recently researchers found a drug that can cure the injury of the spinal cord. The drug can be utilized in the treatment of paralyzed patients.
The drug redevelops the nerve cells in the spinal cords. It set on the nerve cells which were damaged earlier due to numerous reasons
Experts carried out an experiment on rats to determine the effectiveness of this drug. They injected the drug which is known as intracellular sigma peptide (ISP) in the bodies of 26 rats. Researchers found that the drug increases the speed of nerve growth in 80 percent of rats
In the end of the study, 21 of 26 rats get back to their usual movements. They also regained power over their bladders.
Jerry Silver, main author of the study stated in a press release that the outcome of the rat trial is incredible. Each and every participant of the study demonstrated at least a single recovery in term of the performance of nerve cells.
Earlier, there was not any appropriate cure to join the broken spine. Every treatment of spine is to some extent linked with surgeries and injections. Generally, doctors use injections of stem cells, nerve tissue transplant to recover the injury. However, there are certain setbacks of these injections such as disturbance in the entire nervous system.
Fortunately, the new medicine can be transferred inside the human body with the help of ordinary injections.
Lyn Jakeman, program director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke informed that the new medicine can pave the way for further research of this disease.
