Coca-Cola is a well known American company that makes people happy with their drink. But, is Coca-Cola as good as it tastes?
Coca-Cola has been labeled as on of the most important American brands that has made its presence felt throughout the world, in over 200 countries. Studies show us that an average person consumes a Coca-Cola, also known as Coke, once every four days.
Usually we do not think about what we drink and rely more on how it tastes. Researches tell us that a coke consists in around 10 teaspoons of added sugar. This concentration is almost double from what the World Health Organization recommends. They do not advise us to use more than 6 teaspoons.
If you consume a Coke, the sugar level in our body will increase, thus causing a multitude of health conditions. A study was made on how 330ml of Coca-Cola can affect our bodies in just one hour.
According to the study, within 20 minutes from drinking the soda can, the blood levels in our body start to rise in a fast manner. Afterwards, our liver transforms the excess sugar into fat. Also, the amount of sugar that gets into our bodies triggers a burst of insulin.
After 45 minutes from drinking the Coke can, the system starts producing dopamine, which has the role to stimulate neurons in the pleasure center of our brain.
After the study got the attention of the media, people started to panic over the harmful effects that Coca-Cola might have on our bodies.
Niraj Naik, who conducted the experiment, told the media that numerous researches were made on the subject. He stated that due to such fizzy and sugary drinks, an alarming number of heart problems appeared during the last years.
Naik also states that sugar has a more negative effect on the heart than fat and cholesterol.
Although many accusations have been thrown in Coca-Cola’s way, a spokesperson from the company countered all the claims. He states that Coca-Cola, alongside other soft drinks, make for a balanced diet and that it does not affect our health in any way because people have been drinking the product for over 130 years.
