North Carolina authorities recently arrested a woman who declared that her son committed suicide on the 25th of December. Investigations concluded that the man couldn’t have killed himself, given the wounds found on his body.
North Carolina Woman Has a History of Domestic Abuse
According to a statement released by the Clayton Police Department, on Wednesday, 57-year-old Elizabeth Yarborough was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder, following her son’s apparent suicide on the 25th of December 2017.
On that day, the authorities were summoned to Yarborough’s house, apparently by the woman herself. Elizabeth told the 911 operator that James Benjamin Yarborough Jr., her son, allegedly shot himself in the family’s living room.
The fire and police department arrived shortly after 2:30 p.m. and discovered the body of a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head and handgun near him. For some time, the authorities kept a lid on this case, waiting for the coroner’s report.
According to the aforementioned police report, the investigators figured out on the spot that the man couldn’t have committed suicide and that her mother is lying. Furthermore, police interviews revealed that Elizabeth and James had issues and they were heard arguing with their neighbors.
Subsequently, the coroner’s report revealed that the gunshot wound on James’ head is not self-induced but fired by another person who was standing a short distance from him.
Conclusion
The North Carolina woman was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Although the investigators have burned the midnight oil in order to rule out suicide as a possible cause of death, they have yet to establish Elizabeth’s motives and pinpoint James’ exact hour of death.
If proven guilty, the 51-year-old North Carolina woman could face life in prison or even the capital punishment.
