Many people want to undergo a sex change operation, but not all who do that are happy with their decision. The global center of such procedures is Serbia and, according to one of their leading surgeons, many patients came to the clinic in want of reversing their transgender surgeries.
Many people seek the reversal of transgender surgeries
Dr. Miroslav Djordjevic is a urologist, and has been performing transgender surgeries for 10 years. His clinic welcomes people from all over the world. In a city like Belgrade which shows hostility against gay and transgender people, this clinic works as a shelter. However, they noticed how the number of people who sought reversal transgender surgeries had suddenly increased.
Most of these people didn’t undergo proper psychological therapy following the surgery, which made it hard for them to get used to their new bodies. All people who came to the Belgrade clinic had had surgeries in different medical establishments, so Dr. Djordjevic puts the blame on the doctors, and not on the patients. On the contrary, he encourages people not to condemn the patients.
These people didn’t receive the necessary psychological therapy
Over the past five years, Dr. Djordjevic performed seven reversal transgender surgeries, and eight more are currently waiting for an operation. However, most of them want to have their male private parts to be reattached, which is both a complicated and a costly procedure.
However, this sudden surge of reversals came in the middle of an increase of sex change operations. Over the past year, the number of such surgeries has gone up by 20 percent, especially since many insurance companies cover the costs of these operations. These surgeries do not always consist only of changing of the sexual organs, but also contouring of the body and physiognomy.
