South Carolina Copycat Shooter Charged with Disturbing Schools
According to the South Carolina authorities, following a house search warrant served on Thursday, a high school student was arrested and charged with disturbing school, a second-degree felony, after allegedly planning to stage a school shooting similar to the one in Florida.
The teen, whose identity has not been disclosed, as he might be trialed as a juvenile, posted a disturbing picture on his Snapchat account. The photo that may land him in jail depicted him sitting in front of a large bathroom mirror, dressed in shirt, tie, and slacks, holding his phone in his right hand and what appears to be an automatic assault rifle in his left hand.
Fearing that they might be dealing with a copycat killer, considering that the picture was posted just a day apart from the incident which claimed the lives of 17 Florida students, the authorities moved in and took the teen into custody.
Upon searching the South Carolina copycat shooter’s house, the authorities discovered several airsoft weapons, including the assault rifle which featured in the Snapchat photo.
Conclusion
During his police interview, the teen declared that it was all a joke and that he did not intend to go through with the plan. Since Nikolas Cruz was taken into custody for staging the Florida high school massacre, the authorities responded to several copycat threats across the country.
Meanwhile, all high schools are to remain on high alert.
