The anticipation has finally ended with the game’s official launch a few days ago, and Star Wars: Battlefront on PS4 wins over more gamers than the Xbox One and PC combined. It’s always interesting to see which platform gains more attention when combined with a particular game. For this one, it seems Sony is in the lead.
Perhaps it was the shiny Battlefront plus PlayStation 4 bundle that featured an individualized console with Darth Vader, Star Wars controller, and three additional games. It’s certainly something that would draw the attention of hardcore fans of George Lucas’ world. Or perhaps Sony was right in their claims that more gamers of first-person-shooters (FPS) prefer PS4.
Regardless of the reason, it seems that Sony’s last generation console has won the 24 hour race. In fact, it defeated both Microsoft’s Xbox One and the PC combined.
The 24 hour peak
The 24 hour peak of concurrent gamers for the PS4 stood at over 188,000 players online at the same time. Xbox One came in second with over 110,000, and then the PC arrived as last with almost 50,000 gamers. It should be noted that these figures show off concurrent players after 24 hours of the game’s release, not the actual number of sales.
On that front, Electronic Arts (EA) has been rather quiet. So far, they have not confirmed any official figures on which platform won. Based on the numbers provided Player Stats Network (PSN), it does seem like Sony has pulled ahead. Those are mere estimations though, so no one’s mind should be made up yet on which platform is the best for enjoying the newest Star Wars game.
According to PSN, it wasn’t them who calculated the numbers, for those who believed they might’ve been biased toward PlayStation 4. These are direct numbers pulled from EA servers. Still, pulling out over 350,000 concurrent players just 24 hours after its official launch is pretty impressive.
Star Wars Beneath The Surface
However, while the game was fairly praised based on entertainment and gameplay, several have already complained about the content. In all fairness, that does seem to be in line with most of EA’s releases, as the company is often criticized for not giving their gamers enough to go on for dozens and dozens of beautiful hours of gameplay.
According to several trusted reviewers such as GameSpot, Giant Bomb, and VideoGamer, the game is very enjoyable. It’s pure Star Wars entertainment, brought over in a new way. However, after around 10 to 12 hours of gameplay, there’s really not that much more to do or explore. As stated by GameSpot, Battlefront’s “skin is beautiful, but its legs are shaking, and threaten to buckle with time”.
For example, if players were to compare it with games such as Destiny, it would fall short in terms of content. Gamers should expect hours of a flashy, genuine, Star Wars experience. It has been described as “one of the best experiences of the year” even, but only for a short amount of time.
