Volcano Erupts in Chile, Spews Heavy Smoke and Lava, Thousands Flee

March 4, 2015 By Carol Harper

volcano eruption

On Tuesday, Villarrica volcano released heavy lava and rocks high into the sky. The lava forced concerned authorities to pronounced red alert in Chile

As per the report of National Emergency Office, the volcano erupted at around 3 am of local time.  More than 3,000 people were immediately evacuated from nearby town.

The first explosion only lasted for seven hours. Shortly after the volcano calmed down, the resident returned to their homes.

However, the eruption was not completely unpredicted. Two weeks ago, the volcano has shown considerable signs of explosion.

Media broadcast numerous images of volcano when the lava was on its peak. It spewed heavy smoke and lava on the slopes.

Additionally, POVI released a time-lapse video that shows transformation of eruption form minor lava to full one.

The volcano is considered as one of the most active volcanoes of Chile. It is nearly 2,847 meters high. It is situated approximately 400 miles above the small city of Pucon.  Generally, a large number of tourists gathered there for different purposes such as hiking.

Michelle Bachelet, President of Chile, immediately visited the affected region.

NASA Unveils an Incredible Video of Hidden Side of Moon

February 19, 2015 By Carol Harper

dark side of moon

Recently, NASA released an incredible two minute long video of the dark side of the moon.

Generally, a large number of people believe that they are pretty familiar from the entire moon. Unfortunately, they are unaware of the fact that they merely view one side of the moon from Earth.  The lunar surface is tidally locked to Earth which makes it impossible to get a look of other sides of the moon. Thus, spacecrafts are the only way to get a closer view of other regions.

Scientists were quite eager to get a glimpse of the hidden side of lunar surface. Hence, they sent Lunar Reconnaissance specifically for this purpose in 1959. The orbiter of NASA passed each and every side of the moon. It used its accurate laser altimeter along with camera to accumulate data of every side.  It  captured a few detailed images of the far side of the moon as well. It was the first time when scientists got a chance to get a glimpse of the dark side.

The government space agency utilized the mapping data of Lunar Reconnaissance for the creation of video. Surprisingly, it reveals that the ‘dark side’ is covered with numerous dissimilar craters.

A spokesman of NASA explained the video in detail. He informs that the region is coated with several big and small craters. It also includes one of the biggest and oldest features of the solar system.

Space X releases An Incredible 3D Animation Launch Video of Falcon Heavy Rocket

January 28, 2015 By Cliff Jenkins Scott

Falcon Heavy rocket

On Tuesday, Space X releases a new 3D animated video displaying the launch of Falcon Heavy rocket.

Falcon Heavy is the world’s most powerful rocket as it can effortlessly lift into orbit with a payload of 53 metric tons. The payload is nearly double to the load of any other ordinary rocket.

A few months ago, Space X has signed an agreement with NASA in order to use its pad 39 A. The space firm intends to use the pad for the launch of manned Dragon V2 and Falcon Heavy.

Space X was working on the development of the Falcon Heavy since last several years.   Finally, the company is all set to launch the rocket till the end of 2015.

The space transport service launched a test flight of the rocket on 10 January at 9:47AM GMT from Cape Canaveral. Unfortunately, the test flight ended with a “rapid unexpected disassembly”.  Hence, Space X is currently working on the next run of the rocket.

However, the latest video shows the launch of all three Falcon Heavy rockets from Kennedy Space Center.

Additionally, Space X has planned to send a space weather monitoring satellite into Orbit through Falcon 9.  The chief objective of the mission is to help NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The flight is scheduled for the 8th of February 2015.

Amazing Time lapse video of Earth made outta pictures taken from Space

December 29, 2014 By Marlene R. Litten

Seeing Earth from such a vintage point of the ground, Space, is just mind blowing and amazing. Our planet is the only habitable place we know with beautiful natural wonders.

European Space Agency astronaut, Alexander Gerst made a time lapse video over a period of six months. As Gerst got the chance of exploring the planet in the International Space Station where he took photos captured scenes that we might not be able to see while here on ground.

Gerst captured both the man-made as well as natural aspects of our planet that includes poles, cities and much more.

So being the only known habitable planet, we should take care of our planet Earth as in it, is our survival.

NASA Releases Video Showing Orion Spaceship Scorching Re-entry Into Earth’s Atmosphere

December 23, 2014 By Marlene R. Litten

Orion's-blistering-reentry-into-Earth's-atmosphere

NASA recently releases footage recorded amid the first experimental run of NASA’s Orion crew capsule this month gives an astronaut’s eye view of what it would have been like for a crew riding along on the “Trial by Fire” as the vehicle started the blistering re-entry through the Earth’s atmosphere and endured burning temperatures amid the roughly 10 mins dive homewards and parachute aided splashdown.

A significant part of the video, filmed through a window, was streamed live on NASA TV. Though, the footage was lately made accessible by the space agency, after information was gathered on December 5.

As per the NASA’s officials, “The footage gives a taste of the severe conditions the spaceship and the astronauts it carries will bear when they come back from profound space destinations on the voyage to Mars.”

NASA’s Orion capsule arrived at an elevation of 3604 miles and the footage begins with a sight of the Earth’s arch far unique in relation to what we’ve become familiar to from Space Shuttle flight and the International Space Station.

After that it evolves to the scorching atmoshperic entry and impacts from the superheated plasma, the proceeded dive, exquisite series of parachute openings, and ends up with the spectacular splashdown.

The camera that caught this was one of the first components to be detached and evaluated after Orion led its expedition through Earth’s climate. The recorder was set up in a manner that it gazes out from one of Orion’s windows. The recording so produced is surely mind boggling as it shows spaceship reaching at a velocity of more than 20,000 mph amid its re-entrance and warming up to more than 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

A systematic analysis of the footage indicates how friction develops, producing staggering temperatures which brought on the undeniably thick air encompassing the spaceship to change colors, from white, to yellow and after that a light red.

All the heat produced by this high temperature will be avoided teams that will ultimately fly on Orion by a procedure known as ablation. This is a methodology wherein the material that involves the vessel’s heat shield consumes away and brings all the heat with itself.

NASA’s Orion spaceship has been intended to carry maximum four astronauts, conceivably for missions to Mars and close-by space rocks. The experimental run in case of this video was unmanned, yet it is the first event when a spaceship is intended for space explorers has gone as far as Orion did, in more than 40 years.

Chimps Rare Specialties Caught On Video

October 1, 2014 By Denise Ehrlich

wild-chimp-captured

In a new report coming from PLOS Biology there is now evidential data that reveals a rare series of behavior regarding chimps regarding the adoption of traits and social sharing.

This sharing allows for individual to individual teaching and passing down the traits and behaviors through the generations of chimp colony. Each colony had its own unique behavior and traits. The data was gleaned from the scientists and researchers from the University of St. Andrews, University of Neuchatel, Universite’ du Quebec, and the Angila Ruskin University. This mega team of scientists dug deep into the chimpanzee existence, lifestyle, and culture to bring about a new and intriguing look into these primates that are humanity’s closest cousins. Deep inside the forbidding Budongo forest of Uganda, the teams found startling discoveries they’ve now published for the world to see.

What transpired is that they noticed the various diversity of behaviors of the different chimp troupes. Some used tools and some didn’t. The variations of the behaviors even within the same communities was enough to show that the animals were teaching one another new and old practices that became unique to them. The fact that some of the behaviors using tools showed conclusively that the animals had learned from long term association and ingenuity to use some tools for different purposes but each of these behaviors were used only within that specific community. Chimps it appears are just as diverse and unique in their communities as we humans are.

One amazing technique the researchers observed are how the chimps used “leaf sponges” a way they dip leaves in water to get a drink. Some chimps just dipped certain leaves in the water and others fashioned certain leaves by chewing on them. Some even saved the used leaves for further use. This accents how other scientists had watched as chimps who lived in various environments like grasslands, thick forests, and woodlands all figured out and passed down behaviors. This proves that the animals have cultures and there are probably more deep rooted behaviors the scientists need to discover as well to see how the chimps develop their cultures and to what complexity they are.
