A 17-year-old girl from Texas was recently brought up on charges after the authorities uncovered that she brutally stabbed her newborn son, minutes after she gave birth and hid him in the neighbor’s tool shed. The gruesome discovery was made by a 13-year-old neighbor who went into the shed to retrieve something.
Teen Accused of Stabbing Newborn Said She Was Scared of Being Discovered
Erica Gomez, the 17-year-old El Paso resident who was recently accused of slaying her newborn, told the authorities that she was compelled to commit the atrocious murder as she was afraid by the consequences of being discovered by her family.
According to the police report, on the 9th of February, while the rest of her family was asleep, Gomez went into the bathroom, where she reportedly gave birth to the infant. Fearing her family’s backlashes, the teenagers took a knife and stabbed the newborn nine times.
Gomez wrapped the newborn in a bathrobe, left the house, and hid the body inside her neighbor’s tool shed. Allegedly, after stabbing the infant to death, the Texas teen went to sleep as if nothing occurred.
According to the authorities, later that evening, Gomez’s parents took her to the nearest emergency room as the teen was bleeding heavily. The ER physicians told the family that their daughter had a miscarriage.
Gomez’s gruesome murder was uncovered the following day after her 13-year-old neighbor stumbled upon the newborn’s corpse when he went to the tool’s shed to retrieve something. The authorities moved in and arrested Gomez, who is now being held at the El Paso County Jail in lieu of $800,000.
Janice Diaz, the medical examiner in charge of Gomez’s case, declared that the newborn must have laid in the shed for at least 12 hours and that he was alive for a couple of minutes after birth. The infant was stabbed in the side, back, and neck.
