Imagine what it would be like to be part of a universe very much like the one presented by Stanley Kubrick in the classic movie `A Clockwork Orange`. Or, if you could simply play a video game directed by the eerie genius that Kubrick was. Well, it would most probably cause nausea at some point, just as Alexander de Large started to feel terrible after being administered a horrific treatment of psychological torture. It does not sound very attractive for a video game, that is clear, but if you like to be challenged to survive in a dystopian alternative universe and if you also think of art or, why not, video games as psychologically shocking, `We happy few` seems like the perfect choice. So get ready to meet We happy few, the strange roguelike which is being promoted by a Kickstarter campaign.
Even if the Kubrick thing with video games might have caused you an uncomfortable sensation about this upcoming title, it does not mean that you have to be crazy to enjoy We happy too. Not at all. You have to be normal. And to do what you should do. You don`t want do be a downer, do you? You know how the people in the dystopian version of the London in the sixties treat the downers.
We happy few is a survival game, also having features of the roguelike genre. It is based in an alternate version of the 1960s London, where people enjoy drugs to boost their happiness and to not be able to properly judge the horrors caused by the system.
The developer of We happy few, Compulsion Games, has announced the upcoming title earlier in 2015. However, there were not much details revealed about the game at that moment. Anyway, you now have the possibility of getting a better view on the game`s lore and gameplay on the Kickstarter which Compulsion Games has recently opened for the video game.
We happy few is a roguelike survival game, so it means that when you fail to survive, you have to start all over again. And, when you do so, the game generates a new map with new challenges, as the characters of the story remain the same.
The idea is to escape the city of Wellington Wells. But beware, the system and the people will inevitably acknowledge your plan and you will become a Downer, someone who does not wish to enjoy the drug fueled life of ignorance.
